Dr. Gajanan Wagholikar

Dr. Gajanan Wagholikar is a Surgical Gastroenterologist (Gastro-intestinal Surgery) from Pune in Maharashtra. He has completed MBBS and MS from prestigious and well known Byramjee Jeejeebhoy (BJ) Medical College, Pune. Recipient of various awards, Dr. Wagholikar is currently associated with Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, and Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. Earlier, he has worked with BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospitals (Pune) as Resident and Lecturer, SV Institute of Medical Sciences (Tirupati) as an Assistant Professor & Head of Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, Hospital Beaujon (Clichy- France) as Fellow of European Society Surgical Oncology, Siddhi Vinayak Ganapati Cancer Hospital (Miraj) as Consultant, Mission Hospital as (Miraj) as Consultant, and Asian Center for Liver Diseases and Transplantation (Singapore) as Clinical Fellow. He has served as Referee for reviewing manuscripts in GI Surgery submitted to Indian Journal of Surgery.

As an acknowledgement of Dr. Wagholikar's tremendous domain knowledge, he has regularly been receiving invites as faculty in local and regional meetings and in various CME programmes organized under the auspices of the IMA. He has been actively involved in therapy specific presentations various national and international meetings.

Dr. Wagholikar is fortunate to work under Mr KC Tan who was formerly chief of the transplant programme at King’s College, London while his fellowship stint at Asian Centre for Liver Diseases & Transplantation. This centre has a living donor liver transplantation programme besides performing around 90 liver resections per year, the majority being major hepatectomies for hepato-cellular carcinoma. His Fellowship at Department of HPB surgery and Liver transplantation, Hospital Beaujon, Clichy, France under Professor Jacques Belghiti gave him an opportunity to work in one of the leading academic departments in hepato-biliary surgery and a high-volume centre for liver resections (around 200 per year) as well as liver transplantation.
